Darcel was a dancer in the original SOLID GOLD '79. She not only continued as a dancer on the weekly show, but was the Principle Dancer. After season 1 she dropped her last name and was credited only as "Darcel". She danced on Solid Gold for a little over 5 seasons taking most of season 5 (Rick Dees' year) off. Typically she is credited with dancing seasons 80-81, 81-82, 82-83, 83-84 and 85-86. She can also be seen in several music videos and major motion pictures during the '80's.

Now in its 5th year, the Nyah Festival in Cavan takes place during March. This year's festival has been expanded with a packed programme of events extending across the county with over 300 artists.We start this week's programme with a selection of music played at the 2007 Nyah Festival by fiddle player John McEvoy and John Wynne on flute. They play "The Strayaway Child" jig, composed by Sligo fiddler Michael Gorman, followed by "The Maids of Mount Cisco" reel. The other dancers were cute and energetic; Darcel, however, was "dangerous", the presence of an exotic dancer except with more talent and class. A rare combination. I decided to include an encore of Darcel's performance of "Owner of a Lonely Heart" (see 3:10) because it's a better video quality recording, and well, just because! Could you see one of the other dancers pulling that number off? LOL
