The popular American jazz singer, songwriter, and pianist, Nat King Cole, sings "Mona Lisa." The Academy Award winning song written by Ray Evans and Jay Livingston for the Paramount Pictures film "Captain Carey, USA" reached number one on the charts for eight weeks in 1950. Accompanying the music is a video by Spadecaller featuring Leonardo Da Vinci's famous masterpiece Mona Lisa and selected photos of Charlie Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy, Lucille Ball, and Harpo Marx.
Mona Lisa, or La Gioconda. (La Joconde), is a 16th century oil painting on poplar wood by Leonardo da Vinci, and is one of the most famous paintings in the world. Few works of art have been subject to as much scrutiny, study, mythologizing and parody. It is owned by the French government and hangs in the Musée du Louvre in Paris. The painting, a half-length portrait, depicts a woman whose gaze meets the viewer's with an expression often described as enigmatic.
