I wrote Decentralized Databases Are Better than Corporate Datastores at my other blog. The post is about recent circumstances and advances in technology that will enable us stop relying on corporations to (mis)manage our personal information. The idea is to store our information in distributed databases across the net that we control, manage and update.
The implications for the online dating industry are enormous. What happens when PlentyOfFish, Match and eHarmony become services that act on our profiles, and third parties emerge that can provide superior service? You could have a user interface from one company, a search mechanism from another and a communications system from a third. The opportunity for the dating industry to evolve into something approaching efficiency are mind-boggling.
Of course there are more questions than answers for now, but thats what makes it so exciting.

AFP — Aug 3 — Francesca Salcido recently went on 300 dates in 24 hours on the site SpeedDate, an online speed dating company, where dates are 1-2 minutes long. The site hosts 100,000 virtual dates daily, up from 1000 per night when it opened a year ago. Competitor WooMe, boasts 1000 – 4000 registered users logged into the site at any given time. WooMe recently sent two of it’s users on a US road trip to meet 1000 friends they met on the site in a trip called WooAroundAmerica.
